Load 4K MXF footage from Sony PXW-FX9 to Premiere Pro CC
Q 1: I recorded 48GB MXF videos with my company’s Sony PXW-FX9, but I can’t edit the 4K footage in Premiere Pro CC. Does anyone know why Premiere Pro CC can’t open the 4K MXF video from Sony PXW-FX9? Thanks for any replies!
Q 2: I have Premiere Pro CC 2020 (14.0) installed and tried to edit Sony PXW-FX9 4K files. I did not realise that I would need i7 processor to do this. My laptop is only i3, but I thought there may be a way the 4k files could be converted to another format. After spending over 2 hours over two remote sessions with the tech people from Adobe, they have not been able to provide any answer. Can anyone help please.
The Sony PXW-FX9 cinema camera has a full frame sensor, advanced AF borrowed from the Alpha mirrorless cameras but no internal Raw shooting. It is a full-size cine camera that may seem lacking in resolution compared to even its mirrorless rivals as it only records in 4K rather than 5.9K or even 8K. This camcorder uses a new, 6006×4949 24.5-megapixels 6K HDR sensor which records internally in up to C4K, 4:2:2 10-bit in XAVC-I at 600Mbps. There’s also the more compressed Long GOP XAVC-L in 8-bit 4:2:0 at 150Mbps for a smaller file size, and MPEG 8-bit 4:2:2. The high-quality ProRes codecs sit in a kind of “sweet spot” between the humongous data rates of uncompressed video, and the egregious processing demands of Long Gop video. They are specially designed to make your editing process simpler and less resource-intensive. If you don’t need first-class technical parameters, MPEG-2 and H.264 encoding formats are more suitable choices.
